Upcoming Masses - September 2014

The month of September is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows

The Latin Mass arrangements for September 2014 are shown below:

Saturday 13th September 2014
Low Mass
St Marie's Cathedral, Sheffield
Time: 10.00 am.

Tuesday 30th September 2014 - High Mass for the Vigil of the Feast of St Theresa
St Theresa's Church,
Prince of Wales Road,
Sheffield,

I would ask everyone to make an effort to attend the Masses that are organised. Our Priests make themselves available despite very busy parochial workloads and if the Masses are to continue, we need much better attendances than we have at present. If things do not improve then I'm afraid to say that there will have to be a serious review in 2015.

Rt Rev Ralph Heskett named new Bishop of Hallam

His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed Bishop Ralph Heskett to be the 3rd Bishop of Hallam. Bishop Heskett is currently Bishop of Gibraltar; I am sure you will join with me in welcoming him to our diocese and the Mass at Padley Chapel (see below) will be offered for his intentions. I have met Bishop Heskett albeit briefly but I hope to have a formal meeting with him in due course following his enthronement.

I would also like to thanks Bishop Rawsthorne for his generosity and support during his time in Hallam. We wish him a long and comfortable retirement.

Please do support our Masses; our Priests are already very busy and give up their time so generously to ensure the provision of the traditional Mass. We need to show them our support too.

Septuagesima

A short video from the Latin Mass Society of England & Wales on the traditional season of Septuagesima, which was abolished in the Novus Ordo.

Septuagesima reminds us that we are exiles. The name recalls the 70 years of captivity which Jeremiah prophesied for the Jews in Babylon. As they refused to sing the canticles of Sion in a foreign land so the Alleluia is withdrawn where this season is observed.
